Welcome from the IFSAM 2014 World Congress Chair

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management World Congress in Tokyo.

The IFSAM Conference supported the holding of the first conference in Tokyo. I would like to suggest this conference committee make efforts to offer you good research opportunities, and all IFSAM members will have a good opportunity to identify what constitutes IFSAM. In the first conference held in 1992, our focus was 'Management and High Technology'. Up to and including this 13th Conference, IFSAM has always offered themes that meet the needs of the time, for example, Globalization: Impact on Management, Education, Research and Practice (1998, Madrid), Taking Stock (2001, Montreal), Enhancing managerial responsiveness to global challenges (2006, Berlin), Fusion and Development of East and West Management (2008, Shanghai), Justice and Sustainability in the Global Economy (2010, Paris), and Management Re-Imagined (2012, Limerick).

Our conference theme, "Management in Crisis" was selected in order to understand the following fundamental questions:

What should management do in an economic crisis?
How can management studies deal with arrays of economic crisis in today's global and high-tech society?
What is the role of management researchers in an era of social and environmental crisis?

Sources of the crises are national disaster, socially-caused organizational behavior and so forth. One example of these sources, the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011 damaged our economy, and the aftermath has not yet fully played out.
As the host country, we would like to identify Management 'in Crisis'

The IFSAM 2014 conference offers fifteen tracks, one or more keynote speeches, and six symposiums. Some of the symposiums will be run with partners, other management related academies in Japan, and include specific topics reflecting the research focuses of partners. The Program Committee is charged with carefully creating attractive scholarly contexts of the conference. Details of the program will be available online at a later date.

Finally, we, the conference committee, welcome submissions from around the world. The call for papers will commence by May 2013 at the latest.. All proposals will be required to be submitted online using a secured registration system.

Your strong interest and participation in this conference are cordially requested.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference.
