We have closed all the application for submission and correction.

Instruction for Authors

  • The abstract must be written in English.
  • Neither the title nor the text of the abstract should contain any information that identifies the source of the abstract, such as the authors' city, the authors' institution, or the authors' names.
  • Provide a brief title that indicates the content of the abstract.
  • The abstract must be organized in sections, with one paragraph allotted to each section:

    • Purpose: provide background information and indicate what question is being addressed by the study
    • Methods: describe how the study was performed
    • Results: provide detailed information as to what information was collected and what the analysis of that information showed. It is not sufficient to state that results will be presented.
    • Conclusions: provide a summary statement and indicate how the findings might influence current thinking or practice. It is not sufficient to state that implications will be discussed.

  • The text must be limited to 250 words or less, not including the title and author names.
  • No figures or graphs are allowed.
  • You will be asked to indicate who the corresponding author of the abstract is.
  • You will be asked to indicate who the presenting author of the abstract is.
  • You will be asked to identify your preference for presentation style (oral, poster, video).
  • You will be asked to indicate what category best identifies your abstract.
  • Submission of an abstract constitutes an understanding that the work, if accepted for the program, will be presented at the Congress.

  • Determine whether you wish to compete for an award

    • The Wiley-Blackwell Young Investigator Award

      • For primary authors who are 35 years old or younger
      • The work must be original, not previously presented at a national or international meeting or under consideration for presentation at such a meeting
      • The work must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication
      • Two awards of $500 USD will be provided, one for a topic in gastroenterology and one for a topic in surgery
      • Acceptance of the award constitutes an agreement that the author will present the work at the Congress and provide a full-length manuscript at the time of the meeting for consideration for publication in Diseases of the Esophagus. Failure to do so will result in revocation of the award.
      • The winners will be selected among the abstracts submitted for the 2010 Congress on the basis of the scientific quality and originality of the work.
      • The announcement of the winners will take place prior to the September 2010 meeting, and the recipients will be invited to receive the award at the ISDE Business Meeting during the conference.
      • If the manuscript is accepted for publication in the society' s official journal, Diseases of the Esophagus, the article will be printed with a note acknowledging the award.
    • Scientific Abstract Awards

      • The work must be original, not previously presented at a national or international meeting or under consideration for presentation at such a meeting
      • The work must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication
      • An award of $500 USD will be provided to each of twenty primary authors.
      • Acceptance of the award constitutes an agreement that the author will present the work at the Congress. Failure to do so will result in revocation of the award.

Abstract Review and Selection

  • Abstracts will be reviewed and selected by the Scientific Program Committee. Abstracts submitted for award competitions will be reviewed without knowledge of the authors, institution of origin, or city of origin.
  • Confirmation of acceptance and rejection by the Scientific Program Committee will be e-mailed to the corresponding e-mail address of the presenting author in mid-March, 2010. mid-May, 2010

Presentation Styles

  • Oral presentation
    Must be provided in Powerpoint format. All files will need to be uploaded to a server prior to the speakers' session. Use of a laptop computer for presentation is not permitted.
  • Poster presentation
    Presenters are responsible for posting and removing their material according to the schedule that will be provided. Presenters for posters designated for oral discussion are required to preside at their poster panel for discussion with the participants. Audio-visual equipment may not used. The Poster board will be 90 cm wide by 180 cm high.
  • Video presentation
    All videos must be submitted on a USB memory stick or CD ROM prior to the speaker' s session. VHS and S-VHS versions (PAL, SECAM, NTSC) are available. Simultaneous slide projection is not available. Use of a laptop computer for presentation is not permitted.
