Present:
Participants of Board members: Emad El-Omar, James Goldenring, Michio Kaminishi, Eiichi Tahara, Xin Wei Wang, Sir Nicholas Wright, Wataru Yasui, Kazuhiro Yoshida,Grame Young.
Officer: Koji Nozaki.
 
1. Apologies for absence were received from 4 members.
2. Nick Wright reported on the Fifth Meeting of the International Society
of Gastroenterological Carcinogenesis in Oxford. A good programme had been organised with some outstanding speakers and almost 100 delegates were registered. The dinner was to be held in Keble College on the evening of 2nd September.
3. Future Meetings; the next meeting will be organised by the new President, Dr Ray Dubois, from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre, and will be held at Guana Caste, Costa Rica, in late August or early September 2010. Dr Dubois has now supplied forms for registration of interest.
4. President and President-Elect: the new President is Dr Ray Dubois, from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre, and Dr Anil Rustgi, who is T. Grier Miller Professorship of Medicine Chief, Division of Gastroenterology Director, Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Diseases Co-Director, Tumor Biology Program, Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, has accepted the Societyfs invitation to be the new President-Elect.
5. Election of new Members of the Board of Directors: names which were suggested included Dr Tim Wang, Dr Kay Washington, Dr. Masaki Mori (Osaka University), Dr. Kazuhiro Yoshia (Gifu University), Dr. Emad El-Omar (University of Aberdeen,UK), Dr Rick Peek, Dr Joseph Sun and Dr Hang Kwan Yang.
6. Draft Agreement with Karger : this was discussed in detail and the advantages and disadvantages were discussed. There was also a discussion of an affiliation with the journal, Oncology, currently associated with the Japanese Society. Professor Tahara was asked to explore this option, and report back to the Board.
7. There being no other business, the meeting was closed at 9.00 a.m.
