Let's Discuss the Near Future of Cardiovascular Disease

Chairpersons: Hiroshi Ito (Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences)
Hitoshi Yokoyama (Fukushima Medical University)
“After the ’10 or ’20 of cardiovascular disease is what is, or how will there be.”
This is the theme of this plenary session. So far, we have aimed (1) to establish more accurate risk stratification of individual cases, (2) to construct clinical evidences for providing medical care and treatment based on them (Get with Guidelines), (3) to achieve minimally invasive treatment as possible, and (4) to promote the preventive medicine. In the basic fields, the elucidation of pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases by molecular biological and regeneration medicine have been promoted. Given the cardiovascular medicine or research proceed as it stands, what kind of future will it be? On the other hand, the unexpected and significant changes in the trend might happen; called breakthrough and paradigm shift. “Breakthrough” is a significant or sudden advance, development or increase in scientific knowledge that removes a barrier to progress. A “paradigm shift” is non-continuous dramatic changes, such as changing the framework of the conventional concept. When these changes occur, it is likely to be a completely different future. Such innovative progresses are often born from the fusion of the different areas. In this plenary session, it is our great pleasure if the germination of new trends of cardiovascular disease from clinical and basic fields is presented.
