Progress in the Treatment of Structural Heart Diseases

座長: 中谷 敏 (大阪大学機能診断科学)
One of the most remarkable developments in cardiology in recent years is catheter intervention for structural heart disease. They include transcatheter aortic valve implantation/replacement for high-risk aortic stenosis patients, percutaneous mitral valve repair for severe mitral regurgitation, left atrial appendage closure for patients with atrial fibrillation and percutaneous repair of prosthetic valve regurgitation. They have been just emerged as new treatments and their developments aiming at safer and more effective treatments are underway. Moreover, it is interesting that these new treatments have deepened our understanding of the pathophysiology of structural heart disease. In this session, we will discuss the present status and future direction of these new treatments as well as their impact on our decision making.
