Chairperson: Isao Shiraishi (Depatrment of Pediatric Cardiology, National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center)
Pedro J. del Nido (Boston Children's Hospital / Harvard Medical School, USA)

The number of adult patients with congenital heart disease has increased due to marked advances in the diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment. They survive and live longer in society; however, they are confronted with newly emerged problems. Focusing on surgical treatment, indication, timing, and procedure of surgical re-intervention for adults with congenital heart disease remains controversial. Particularly, decision making of indication and timing has been left to individual surgeon because most of the adult patients are less symptomatic and are diverse in comprehension of their disease. In this plenary session, Dr. Pedro J. del Nido, Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery, Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard University will talk a state-of-the-art on cardiac surgery in adults with congenital heart disease. After that, criteria and optimal timing of re-interventions after RV outflow reconstruction, Rastelli procedure, arterial switch operation, Fontan procedure, and congenitally corrected transposition of great arteries will be presented by 4 speakers including reports of challenging cases. In this plenary session, we would like to deeply discuss problems on management and surgical treatment of adults with congenital heart disease.
