(5) Multilayered Cardiovascular Genetics

Chairperson: Seiji Takashima (Department of Medical Biochemistry, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine)
Stuart A. Cook (National Heart & Lung Institute, UK)

Due to the progress of high-speed sequencers and enhancement of the genome database, identification of disease causative genes became relatively easy. However, despite the clear family history at the clinical site in the cardiovascular domain, the opportunity to identify genes responsible for it is subject to fewer impressions. On the other hand, in the cancer region, pathogenic genes directly related to treatment as well as diagnosis such as point mutation of EGF receptor and ALK fusion gene have been identified. Therefore, identifying cancer genotype is an essential treatment strategy. In the future, it is also essential to accurately determine disease-causing genes in the cardiovascular domain and to establish a therapeutic strategy. For that purpose, efforts are needed to identify the causative genes by using the latest genetic knowledge and biochemical knowledge, various methods, and to develop therapeutic methods. In this session, we will give lecturers who are constructing therapeutic strategies based on the genetic information and discuss future cardiovascular care.
