(1) Futurability of Coronary Revascularization

Chairperson: Masato Nakamura (Toho University, Ohashi Medical Center)

Coronary Revascularization is the fundamental strategy for the treatment of ischemic heart disease. The 2 strategies of coronary revascularization, namely percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), seem to be fully matured in these days. As for PCI, new generation stents and even bio-gradable stents have emerged to the clinical market along with the evolution of technology. On the other hand, as for CABG, early and long-term results have been improved along with the standardization of off-pump CABG technique and more frequent use of multi-arterial grafts represented by the internal mammary artery. Based on these situation of coronary revascularization, the purpose of the present symposium is to discuss about the future of coronary revascularization. Is it further going to evolve? If so, how is it evolving? During this course of evolution, how is the Heart Team going to contribute to the evolution? Is there any possibility for the national database of PCI and CABG to play important roles for achieving this? We would like to discuss about these issues in this symposium.
