Chairperson: Hiroaki Kitaoka (Department of Cardiology and Geriatrics, Kochi University)

“Cardiomyopathy is myocardial disease by unknown cause" is unsuitable already as a concept at present. The development of genetic testing and diagnostic imaging modality has been leaded to understanding the pathogenesis and diagnosis of cardiomyopathy. Moreover, medical treatment and non-medical treatment have also changed big according to that. On the other hand, there are a lot of unresolved issues in the cause and/or modification factors in cardiomyopathy. For example, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is defined as hereditary myocardial disease, but the genetic mutation is identified with the only by about 40 percent of the checked patient, and the patient's remaining cause of a disease isn't clear yet. Therefore, the cause of a disease explication of cardiomyopathy from a further basic research and development of new treatment with that are needed. In this symposium, the newest development of the pathogenesis from a basic research, the diagnostic imaging and treatment will be presented, and we would like to argue development of future's research and clinical treatment of cardiomyopathy.
