New Devices for Interventional Cardiology

Chairperson: Junya Ako (Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Kitasato University School of Medicine)
Fu Xianghua (The Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University, China)

Evolutions and revolutions have constantly been changing the form of interventional cardiology. We have witnessed the evolution from balloons, stents, drug-eluting stents, and finally bioabsorbable scaffolds in percutaneous coronary interventions. Advancement in endovascular therapies for peripheral artery disease significantly expanded the indications for percutaneous revascularization. Recent developments in the field of structural heart have changed the landscape in the treatment for valvular and congenital heart diseases. Now transcatheter aortic valve implantation has been indicated for intermediate risk aortic stenosis patients. Not only pulmonary/aortic valves but also mitral/tricuspid valves are currently being treated by less invasive percutaneous technologies. What are being developed and where are we going in the field of interventional cardiology? In this session, new devices/therapies in interventional cardiology will be reviewed and discussed.
