Greetings
The 50th Annual MeetingIt gives me great pleasure to invite you to the 50th Annual Meeting of the Japan Diabetes Society which will be held for three days from Thursday, May 24, 2007, with the main venue being Sendai Sun Plaza Hall, located in the City of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. The principal theme of the meeting is "Fighting diabetes-Human wisdom and choices".
Successfully fighting diabetes requires team treatment. Participants in the Japan Diabetes Society meetings are members of such teams, involving a variety of health care professionals including physicians, co-medicals, pharmacists, nutritionists and medical technologists. We wish to make the event a forum for all of these participants to study and take stock of the progress made in the latest diabetes treatment. We plan to cover the most up-to-date information, knowledge and topics in the session of educational lectures.
Most importantly, the annual meeting of the Japan Diabetes Society is an event at which participants introduce and discuss the outcomes of their scientific and clinical research, and return to their homes with new ideas and inspiration aimed at furthering ongoing diabetes studies. To fight diabetes, we need to know more about our opponent. There are still too many things we do not know about diabetes. At this meeting we wish to cover topics in the energy excess and physical inactivity era, such as "How do pancreatic beta-cells respond to an ever-growing demand" from the aspect of insulin secretion, and "Obesity and diabetes: disorganized homeostasis in the excess-energy era" from the insulin activity perspective.
Diabetes is becoming a serious health problem worldwide, and our most powerful weapon is "wisdom", represented by cutting-edge bioscience as well as new diabetes care and treatment strategies, while "choices" represents the path that future generations must select to counter increases in obesity and changes in eating habits.
The City of Sendai is especially magnificent in May, with its lush spring greenery. I urge you to enjoy with us the rewards of academic study, as well as the beauty of Sendai, not to mention the delicious cuisine this city offers. We look forward to hosting you in Sendai from Thursday, May 24, 2007 to Saturday, May 26, 2007.
