Announcement for the 24th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association of Cardiovascular Intervention and Therapeutics (CVIT2015)

President: Takafumi Ueno
(Kurume University Hospital, Cardiovascular Disease Center)

A heartfelt greeting and salutation to all CVIT members.

It is with great pleasure that I am announcing that the 24th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association of Cardiovascular Intervention and Therapeutics will be held over three days from Thursday, July 30th to Saturday, August 1st, 2015 in Fukuoka City at the Fukuoka Yafuoku! DOME and Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk.
Building on the wonderful planning and execution of last year's meeting at the International Conference Center in Kobe, presided over by President Miyazaki, and the fresh program which was implemented this year by President Nishikawa, it is my hope that next year's meeting will satisfy a diverse audience ranging from intervention specialists on the cutting edge to allied health professions.
The theme for the meeting will be "What's next?"
More than 35 years have passed since the first coronary intervention was performed in Japan, and in that time a robust array of devices and technologies have been developed. Catheter intervention has now expanded beyond treatment of the coronary artery and into the realm of Structural Heart Disease (SHD), as typified by TAVR (TAVI) for aortic valve stenosis. However, it is also true that there has been a rapid drop in the rate at which new devices are being introduced each year. Given this trend, what will we be asking for in 2015? It has been ten years since the drug-eluting stent (DES) was introduced in Japan. What has the DES brought about in that time? What about the ongoing debate in our field, for which a heart team is essential, of the applicability for CABG and PCI? What is the appropriate duration of administration for antiplatelet agents? What is the appropriate treatment in the case of coronary arteries in diabetics or dialysis patients? What is the outlook for SHD? The question of "What's next?" is all around us.
These issues will be the central focus of the symposium and panel discussions at next year's meeting. Furthermore, the topics of the lectures given at the symposium and panel discussions will be solicited through a fundamentally public process.
In addition, planning is underway for a special "CVIT Peer Review" initiative. With the cooperation of 2016 President Masato Nakamura, this initiative will move forward and will examine how facilities which conduct PCI can be appropriately incorporated. Your cooperation is, of course, both keenly sought and appreciated.
The time frame for the 2015 meeting is a bit later in the year than usual, but it has been scheduled to coincide with the summer holiday period. It also just so happens that a fireworks display will be held at Ohori Park on the evening of the last day of the meeting. The meeting venue is adjacent to a beautiful seaside park, the hotel overlooks Hakata Bay and the Fukuoka DOME will be open for your family to enjoy as well. By all means, I invite you and your family to come and experience Fukuoka in the summer.

Dates: July 30th (Thu) - August 1st (Sat), 2015
Venue: Fukuoka Yafuoku! DOME and Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk
